An experiment is a systematic procedure designed to discover (or illustrate) facts through observing effects.

Experiments usually test a predetermined hypothesis but most are undertaken without certain outcomes. In fact, experiments leading to a hypothesis being rejected are regarded as successful because they create insight. It’s fine to be ‘proven wrong’, and use this knowledge to inform further experiments or wider organisational decisions.
